Samyak Kaninde

Photographer

Samyak, currently based in Chennai, is a full-time software professional and an ardent part-time photographer. Weekends see him exploring the few remaining wilderness tracts and reserve forests around the city in search of birds and other wildlife.

When time permits, Samyak travels and treks through Southern India to observe and film people, places and wildlife. Like many gifted and passionate artists, Samyak shares a special relationship with his chosen medium. He feels nature - from trees and little insects to birds and big beasts unfolding and revealing herself in all her splendour before his camera’s eye. Samyak believes that he grew in stature as a photographer inasmuch as he was able to deeply appreciate and understand the myriad forms of nature, particularly in the wild. His images have made it to the semi final round of the famed Viola Natural History Wildlife Photographer of the Year contest, and were exhibited as part of the National India Salon organized by the Photographic Society of Madras (PSM).

Samyak's chief tools are a Canon 5D Mark II, with an old Canon 400D serving as backup. He uses a Canon 300 mm F4 lens for telephoto zoom and a Sigma 150 mm macro lens for close-up photography. For landscapes and portraits of people, he prefers a Canon 24-105 mm travel lens. His accessories include a Manfrotto Tripod with 488RC2 and a 1.4 TC (attached to his 300 mm lens) for birds.
